WHAT IS ORGANIC CHEMISTRY?

WHAT IS ORGANIC CHEMISTRY?

Organic chemistry as the name implies, is the study of organic substance which are formed by living organism such as plants and animals. Though this substances can be synthesized from inorganic materials in the laboratory.  Therefore it can now be defined as the chemistry of carbon compounds.  With the exception of a few compounds such as oxide, trioxocarbonates (IV) and the metallic carbides, which are conventionally referred to as inorganic, all other carbon compounds are grouped together in this separate branch of chemistry. This grouping is valid and confirmed because of

·         Their many common features;

·         Their large number; and

·         The great medical, biochemical and economic importance of many of them.
